Is it common to deliver your work without any discussion of your designed graphic?

A bit complicated question... I think only very few designers can pull it off to create and deliver a first iteration of their idea, without any preparing conversations or discussions. These are probably famous designers, who are kindly requested and expected to come up with a very unique and astonishing design. You don't negotiate with such artists...

For most other designers, a good briefing is always necessary, and discussions and iterations of their ideas are inevitable. However, I'd like to point out that the client may be regarded as King but he/she's not the designer. So don't ask your client if they personally like" the design. The design probably serves a purpose – not them.
