There used to be a few commercial plugins to perform background removal in specific images. But Photoshop has so many pretty good selection methods built-in nowadays, that there's no need to resort to special plugins. So all you need is some proficiency in these methods, and a keen eye on when to use which methods on which parts (subject or background).
