If you can, you're probably using SVG for the wrong kind of imagery. The JPEG format is not at all an equivalent to the SVG. The JPEG file format deals preferably with pixel images, while the SVG is typically for vector-based images like logos, icons, symbols, graphs, diagrams, and other kinds of vector illustrations.
