It depends a lot on these aspects:
Apart from the keynotes, there are about 300 sessions (presentations, workshops, full day courses, special gatherings) on various topics and levels.
For some one who lives in California or even LA, the registration fee is the only cost. So if you're a professional, working in the neighborhood, the benefit of attending just a few basic instructor-led courses, might already be worth it. But for some one traveling from abroad, the flight and the hotel costs might raise the bar.
Coming from the Netherlands, I definitely need some more value and incentives to pack my bags and join MAX. And being away from work for a whole week (including the time to travel) also puts a dent in my income...
