Print is NOT dead, but exactly those two categories you mentioned (newspapers and magazines) are the weakest and most endangered ones in that industry.
Many publishers built their empires on a massive workflow with lots of physical aspects and constraints, revolving around and within the killing cadence of the editions, the deadlines, the clock, the printers, the transport, the kiosks...
Nowadays, digital news and articles are ubiquitous. Everywhere, and anytime.
It takes a very brave publisher to start a new magazine or newspaper, or even to be able to continue a current one. So there's indeed just a very limited place for such printed media, I'm afraid.
But don't despair. A wise publisher once told me that it's not his ambition to simply slap ink on paper and get the word out to the world. A good publisher will always try to follow people through their lives. And in any stage of their lives they will try to serve them news and information, from editorial and commercial sources, in any format and through many channels. That's their real mission.
