Like Laura Weed already describes, you can automatically re-link all your images by pointing to one re-found image, provided they're in the same folder.

Under the side menu of the Links panel, you can also point to the new folder directly, and even let InDesign ignore certain mangled file extensions.

You can also use Bridge or the Mac's Finder to rename files according to the original name in the linked path.
