Over time, websites are often restyled, revamped, enhanced, extended, in many ways for numerous strategies and with many tools and frameworks, by developers with varying technical insights and attitudes.
So it won't hurt to take a good look at the code, be shocked by its enormously and excessively convoluted construction, and completely overhaul the whole lot by merely looking at the end result and rebuilding it from scratch...
