It would be useful to design a new glyph for zero.
A new zero could prevent mistakes. It might take some time to find its way through all language systems and all sorts of technicalities, but we've got used to the € sign as well within a decade or so. Although I think it's easier to introduce a brand new symbol than a redesigned one. People and industries tend to be very conservative...
For the rest I can't think of any real problems – just tendencies, for which current typography already has some solutions. One of the current tendencies is that we're increasingly making use of emoticons and icons to express ourselves briefly and internationally. Earlier generations didn't have the need to communicate so much, so quickly and clear across their language borders. But is that a typographical issue ?
It should be. I hate it when an app forces me to use emoji in a style which I don't like. And it's always such a carnival of colors, when you compose or receive a message with emojis. So if we'd embrace generic icons and emoji as elements of type, maybe we can expect more subtly styled sets of icons and emojis to be added to a font, just like characters.
