If Apple's past replies and reasoning to that question are anything to go by, then the answer is NO. However, the iPhones grew bigger and bigger, the iPadhas a stylus, and we're getting closer to hybrid apps...
In essence, I think Apple prefers to have more powerful apps on an iPad and just hold on to their stance of not wanting to let desktop and laptop users put their greasy fingers onto the screen.
But... I've been working on a Microsoft Surface Studio a lot (regularly and for longer periods), and I must say you really and quickly grow accustomed to using your fingers on a screen ! And not just for the obvious sketching, even more for navigating through systems and applications, dismissing alerts in the corner of your eye subconsciously with the flick of the wrist, hitting buttons instantly when they appear, anywhere and anytime.
It feels natural, and it's not fatiguing at all. As a matter of fact I think it's even ergonomically better to use computers in this way, preventing the 'clamped' grip on a mouse and strained hand and finger positions over a keyboard.
So I'm desperately waiting for Apple to shift their minds on this.
