Since 2002, when InDesign 2.0 was introduced and native transparency was being properly tackled within the exported PDF files, print graphic designers could create and produce just about everything they could think of. No creative or technical limits. The only restrictions could come from the hard-copy materials, like plastics, difficult kinds of paper stock, etc.
And although the screen might seem the ideal carrier to relief designers even from any hard-copy conditions, it's the interpreting system and/or distributing platform setting the underlying rules for what can and can't be creatively envisioned and/or published. E.g. the web poses many design restrictions compared to print media.
But there's more: the screen offers ways to navigate, interact, and animate designs and graphics. And that's something print designers haven't learned to deal with !
So there are many discrepancies between print and screen, designers need to learn.
